Go online to Transport Canada and look up Drone Pilot Certificate. Note that , for Transport Canada , any remotely piloted aircraft is a drone. As for the test, it is not nearly as difficult as you might think. All members of all RC clubs in Canada have taken and passed it. That said, I believe there are tutorials available through MAAC. There is certainly information about the requirements on the MAAC website.

I agree with Brian - not as difficult as you might be thinking.

Start with some reference material. One example, available for free in French and English, can be found here (https://www.aerialevolution.ca/rpas101/).

When you are ready for the exam try and get setup with two monitors on your PC (or an iPad as your second screen). Use one for the test, the other for reference documents and Google.

Hi guys,

just some information pertaining the license.

As long as the field you are flying is not in a controlled area (near airports or other similar facilities) the basic exam is good.

Pretty simple to pass with a bit of studying some guides out there and having some notes with you (another window on your pc with references open to look up stuff)

Once though you are close to a restricted area, then the advanced exam is needed ( similar like the basic with a few more details) and you need an 80% passing grade on that.

After that though, you need to go pass a test from certified companies that give it, to show that you know how to prep for a flight.

That is a bit more complicated and requires preparation. Not as easy as it sounds, you really need to put some work in.

As I got back into flying, we fly (Helicopters) at club CRASH and we all have to get that advanced exam done since we are 5km behind Bell helicopter and we are in a restricted zone.

As I understand your new club location is pretty far out there so no need for any of you to do this as long as you fly there.

But to be compliant with Maac, each person needs at least the basic exam.

Take care guys.
