To follow what we started with the indoor challenge at the dome, who would be interested to have a few aerobatic clinics at the field during the summer ? We could conclude with a small contest maybe in September.
The clinics would be to learn maneuvers and technics, plane trimming, radio programming, etc.
Juan Velasquez offers to help.
The details have to be defined together with those interested.

Hi all,
Thanks Xavier for the posting.
Let's move ahead and try to bring new people to IMAC, perhaps pattern too.
I'd start with a quick on-line session about Aresti reading/refreshing. I am sure most people know it, then we go to the field and start flying.
I am available pretty much anytime so if we have a group (can be a group of one...lol) just drop a message and we coordinate so we get together at the field.
As we move along we focus on the different scenarios according to what's requested.
Marcel Bastien has also manifested interest in helping. I'll coordinate with him for the Aresti stuff and setup something.
All the best and drop a message with comments.

Maybe start with clinics on how to trim and balance correctly an aerobatic airplane. Basic maneuvers and technics. Reading and understanding Aresti figures…
I am excited already :)

Indeed trimming the plane including CG, throws and radio settings is the first thing to do. Trying to fly maneuver or just a straight line with a plane that doesn't go straight is a waste of time.
You already passed the first test Hector :D;)

That is the main objective. It was very interesting to see it at the indoor. The participant of the challenge improved their skills and they were having more fun. That is a win-win story.

Not too big the loop. Max 395 feet with 5 feet clearance with the ground :D:D:D
Hi Xavier… please count me in! I would appreciate the opportunity to learn from you & the competition aerobatic pilots, to raise my skills in aerobatic maneuvers. Unfortunately I won’t be around this weekend, but please add me to the list for next weekend.
Thank you so much for your generous time and attention to setup this activity!

Well it seems we are advancing!
I spoke with Marcel Bastien and he is ready to go to the field 2 or 3 times a week (I can also be there) to help with Aresti and maneuvers in general, so drop a message here and we will be ready.
Before we continue, I thinks these could be a good guidelines so we can try to go through all of them as necessary to prepare for the final test in September: a one day contest.
So here they are:
1. Aresti reading, maneuvers descriptions.
2. Airplane and radio setup: this might take a bit of time, but in three sessions we should be able to have an airplane ready for Imac.
- For airplanes we focus on mechanical linkages, CG, general airplane adjustments (wing and stab parallel, etc)
- Radio setup: focusing on the throws, exponential, dual rates, etc.
3. Flying sessions: best practices on performing maneuver: straight lines, hesitating rolls, loops.
4. Full routine flying: once we complete item 3 we will do this.
Anything you guys suggest, don't hesitate to let us know.
BTW is this the best way to communicate? How about a WhatsApp group for this? Let me know what you think.

On the subject of trimming an airplane for aerobatics, there are a few different chart on the web.
Here are some links:
https://forums.mini-iac.org/forum/getting-started/879-goldsmith-trimming-chart
https://www.lakesawyerhawks.org/pdf/RC_Tech_Tips/Trimming_with_Bryan_Hebert.pdf
http://pages.suddenlink.net/donramsey/Hebert_Model%20Trimming.pdf
I personally use the triangulation method from Bryan and in a few flights, the airplane is 90% good usually.
Any trimming obviously assume the airplane is straight, with no loose control linkage, etc.
Some airplanes have adjustable incidence on the wings and/or the stabs. It allows better trimming. But even without this, it is possible to improve the airplane a lot with basic trimming tests and adjustements. It makes the pilot job easier and it's safer for the plane :-)

All the interest in learning aerobatics is very encouraging! It should be a fun summer! Thanks Xavier, Juan and Marcel for getting this going. I find flying with a plan gives the hobby a lot more meaning.

Hi all:
I am available tomorrow (Sunday the 21st) so we can kick start the IMAC/aerobatics clinic.
I can be at the field after 9 AM, so if anyone can make it please drop a message here and we coordinate.
Also, Marcel Bastien is available two or three times during the week for Aresti reading, flight lines/level and turnaround maneuvers. He will post here which days weather permitting.
All the best!
