Some of us are planning to kick off the season with a beer and/or supper at
3 Brasseurs, 46-A Brunswick Boulevard, Pointe-Claire after tomorrow’s session.

I will ask who plans to attend while at the Charlemagne gym and give them a call to get a table ready.

I have recently assembled and finetune this model. Would you like me to bring it next week ?

It is a bit big for the Gym but if you allow me a few minutes I could make a quick run.

Here's a link to a picture on the TH web site (https://twistedhobbys.com/rcf-48-epp-extra-300-blue/).

Congrats on your new assembly Luc.

Regarding flying it at Indoor, since the weight of your new plane is more than double the weight limit established for Indoor safety purposes, it would not be a good idea.

Sounds like it is designed to fly nicely outside - just need some skids. Let us know when you plan to take it for a spin at the field - I look forward to seeing it.

Sounds good, taking a good second look at the plane the gym would feel rather small! Concerning Weight you are totally right.

I'll bring my https://twistedhobbys.com/th-35-epp-crack-turbo-beaver-blue/ instead. Should be a lot of fun!

Indoor season is going very well. We had 14 pilots in the last three seasons.
It has been a lot of fun so far, lots of different machines...

- Mezri with his Pilatus, Pou du Ciel...
- Xavier with his 3D performer
- All the Cubs flying formation
- FPV
- I bring my old-timers now and then
- We had Raymond with a flying Fortress and a Mustang
- I believe Gilles brought a really nice Spacewalker (tiny bird, excellent flier)
- Lukas and his iPod-controlled paper airplane (the paradox of old and new!)
- 3D planes crashing into each other (Luc and Marco? or was it Gabriel?)

Needless to say, great atmosphere, camaraderie, lots of ideas being exchanged..

See you guys next week.

Mezri

Thanks Ricardo, its allways fun...:D
but with such a number of planes and pilots, can we ask for the big Gym once a month in stead of once a season ?
I think that most of us can event pay an extra 10 to 20 $ per night to get the big gym.

Ricardo

I think is a good idea, will investigate.

Yes, thanks Recardo.
Nice and accurate description of flying at the gym.
Great atmosphere and camaraderie.
The 3D planes sure look tempting.
To quote Michael Jenkins, when the weather is bad don't go on line.
You buy planes and stuff. I am guilty looking into the foamy 3D planes.
This has been a good year for buying.
The gym we currently use is quite nice, but I agree with Mezri, paying
Extra for a bigger gym is worth looking into.

Eight Brave Pilots faced the wind and snow and made it to the sixth Wimac Winter Indoor session, 2019 Edition.

The latest MAAC magazine brings a nice article by Xavier Mouraux, on pushing ourselves a bit out of our comfort zone and trying some 3D aerobatics. He suggests mini-contests as a great way to improve our flying skills...

What about creating a mini-contest in the next indoor session?

I understand that some members don't have the 3D equipment. For those we could adapt the sequence of maneuvers.

Simple maneuvers such as:
- Perfect takeoff;
- Perfect landing - on the spot;
- Horizontal eight;

Let us know your ideas!

LucT

Funny I was thinking about it yesterday night. We could have to follow a certain path, such as going on a certain wall, stick there for a few seconds, go inverted to another wall, etc.

We could also have a basketball challenge, i.e. drop the tail of the airplane in the basket and be able to fly out within a certain timeframe.

Fly inverted for 3-4 minutes as close as possible to the ground or have to push some objects...maybe small red cones.

We could spend maybe 30 min. each night so others would be able to fly the rest of the evening.

Voilà mes idées initiales :-)

We had another great session last Tuesday,

14 pilots showed up, as well as some spectators. I hope a good crowd keeps showing up.

Regarding the Big Gym... I understand that the school usually does not rent the big Gym. They sometimes accept to let us use once per season, depending on availability.

I also checked the possibility to rent a soccer dome. The closest one in the west island is the one in Beaconsfield. One third of the dome would be a great space.

Unfortunately, I had a chat with the manager, and he was very dismissive. It seems that the Dome is fully booked, and he does not want to go through the trouble of renting it sporadically to a crowd flying model airplanes (with which he is unfamiliar), when he has regular weekly clients.

In addition, the fee would be additional to what we already pay, to be divided amongst the members that are willing to go.

Other news: I built a little controline airplane, and I am willing to test it during next session. I hope we can share the space for a few minutes. After its maiden, the model will be available for whoever is willing to take it for a spin (Try CL!!).

See you all on Tuesday,

Ricardo

Another great indoor session, we had 12 participants today.

I brought my little Control Line airplane and was able to take it for a spin.

The maiden flight showed the inside wing dropping too much (the inside wing carries the weight of the lines...). Therefore I added some ballast to the outside wing, to improve balance. The result was quite satisfactory, given this was my first attempt at an indoor control-line.

I have rejoined my Club and now all set to fly indoors as well. I have bought some beginner stuff based on last 3 visits to indoor evenings!

1) Horizon's SPORT CUB S, which I should be able to handle as I soloed in 1971 and my MAAC number as well as having brought small electrics to the club during our 2002 fun fly, but will greatly appreciate input on Tuesday as much has changed/improved, even archiving my 1999 Futaba 9Z 72mhz Radio gear!

2) As much I have never been a fan of slapping the air into submission (Heli), yet built the first (1972) Kavan Jet Ranger through my association with then Udisco in the early 70s with the scars as evidence. I saw a drone and bought the same Eachine E58 which I suspect a decent beginner. This I will appreciate even more assistance with. I saw 2 at last indoor session, but my multi batteries are yet to arrive or any fast charger, but trimming is all I need to achieve respecting the expertise of experienced users(flyers).

See you there...still missing the scent of Glow exhaust gasses, but the passion lives on.

If you Google “E58 batteries” you will find multiple sources. But so far I have not seen any E58 parts sourced from N.A. - only China and Hong Kong. Delivery is not the quickest but the parts are cheap and had no problems with parts from Banggood.

Guys,
Another busy session, with 15 participants.
We had Mezri demonstrating his skills behind the controls of his Twin Otter. Spectacular demonstration of flight characteristics and piloting skills.

We had also Lucas trying several different flying models I built for him. We were busy adjusting power, CG, elevators, etc. Those little things are tricky to fly. Michel, Lucas and myself, we had a blast.

Next week is the season finale. Remember, its on wednesday, 19h, in the big gym (first entrance left of the building).

I propose we gather at 3B for supper. Please let me know who is in and I will book ahead of time.

Cheers!

We had a peak of 22 participants on March 12 and 27, and a low of 9 participants on Feb 12 (snowstorm).

Kudos to Luc Thibault and John (Jack) MacDonald, who attended to ALL sessions! - Note: They fly non-stop, so thats a LOT of flying time!

Last session we had Mezri with the amazing Twin Otter scale, Xavier with his brilliant competition 3D aerobatics, and myself crashing my controline airplane in front of all crowd.

I hope everyone had a lot of fun,

See you soon at the field,

Ricardo

We welcome spring, and warmer flights outside, but this means the end of the winter indoor season.

It was a wonderfull time. Thank you to the volunteers who organized it and participants for a very respectful approach. It was amazing to fly with so many models in the air!

Thanks to all the organizers for planning the indoor flying & 3B outings. I will miss it, especially all the smiling & happy pilots.
Drones, 3D cliks, paper flown with an iPAD, sport cubs (en masse), a P-51, bi-planes,even a 3D competition, control-line, a twin engine beauty, no shortage of variety.
Several gatherings @ 3B after flying, well I sure enjoyed being with you all.
Tuesdays were 1st class. Thanks everyone.
