Hi !

I've been building EPP Warbirds for a few years now and flying them over a lake. They are waterproofed to be able to land on water as most of them are not sea planes (Corrosion X in the servos, ESC and FC dipped in Plastidip, Corrosion X sprayed in the brushless motors, etc).
Here are a few videos I uploaded on Youtube :

I wonder if these are the types of planes you fly at WiMAC ?

(I'm considering putting landing gears on some of them ...).

Cheers !

Chris

You could hand launch them and land on either the grass runway or on the conveyor belt runway. Landing gear would also work well on the conveyor belt runway.

Great ! I should really come and visit the club. When do you think would be a good day?

Great ! I should really come and visit the club. When do you think would be a good day?In winter on Saturday or Sunday if it's not too cold and windy, there will often be someone there. We just takeoff and land in the snow. In the summer, any day that is not rainy or too windy is good. If someone is there, the gate will be closed but not locked. In the winter we also fly indoors in a gym on Tuesdays from 6:30 to 8:30 pm.

Here's a video from a couple year ago.

I'm trying to chase Robert's Smaller and faster Electric Edge with my Icon A5.

Nice video (fpv?). I put my application form and cheque in the mail yesterday, so I'll be seeing you at the field soon.
I really went overboard with this hobby and have built dozens of planes (flying wings, warbirds, trainers, foam board models ...) and multicopters (Mostly from 3D printed frames). I also have a few semi assembled 3D printed planes ... they're a work in progress so to speak.
I have A LOT of (new) extra parts (mostly from Hobbyking and MyRcMart) I bought over the years: flying over and landing in a lake has taken its toll on ESCs, servos and motors ...
I'm really looking forward to flying from a field : more flying, less repairing !

Cheers

Welcome to the club Christian! I look forward to meeting you! I presume you have your MAAC membership as well?

Welcome to the Club!

The video was recorded with a Go Pro Hero mounted on a ICON A5

In view of the fact that you are familiar with water flying I have a set of floats never used for a Dynam DHC-2 Beaver 1500mm with the servo included and also a brand new brushless outrunner motor BM3720A-KV650 for sale. Make me an offer. I'm going to also post them an clasified if I ever get in. wayneg_2@sympatico.ca

Hi Wayne. I don't think I'll be building anything new this year (a first ...). I have quite a lot of maintenance/repairs to do on my birds before next season ... (although the season will start a lot earlier this year ;-) ). I have a few half finished projects (a massive Hercules wing from Crash Test Hobby, a number of modified flying wings based on stuff from Flite Test - foam board builds, a few EPP fighters I have to finish and maiden ...). Perhaps you guys can help me with some not-so-successful builds like the Beaufighter (I just can't get the CG right...) ...

Michael that's a fine looking ICON (looks expensive). I was considering buying one myself but they are not all created equal it seems. You must have the original. As seaplanes go, I have the CL 215 with a 2 m wingspan (custom cut foam from Marek - I put his web site address on my Youtube videos - he's situated in Poland), and also a couple of YG EPP float planes from Korea (great fliers) although I'm struggling with the APM controller + GPS on one of them. The other planes are not meant to land on water ... but with good waterproofing only a few catch on fire every year (the ESCs don't forgive even the smallest amount of water ...).

I only fly electrics (for now). Maybe you guys can introduce me to gas engines. I have this BIG (custom build) Polycarpov I 16 that is very underpowered. Based on my experience with the smaller I-16 I have, they are tricky to fly but so much fun ! (short fuse ... Gee Bee racer style). Also to be completed is a Fokker DR1 (painted in red of course).

For Tx, I mostly use the FRSKY Taranis . All my larger models have telemetry and diversity receivers (Failsafe set to Zero Thr). I wrote simple LUA scripts for it with audible alarms (Low Batt, Alt, RSSI ...).

Looking forward to meeting you all ! :)
