Ok, as some of you may know, for several years I've been busy and last year I decided to invest more time in flying at WIMAC with all of you but as luck would have it my advanced trainer (for >13 years) ended its service life very suddenly and prematurely (could have been a servo, the radio or the battery or a glitch in the TX) (see photos red/white plane "57"). So not dismayed I decided to fly the Andy Lennon Snowy Owl I modified, but the engine, an OS 50 SX refused to start as compression was nil...the ring needed TLC, so after expanding the ring gently and re-installing it, the engine started right away and ran beautifully until it started to heat...then BRAAAT..with ejection of metal fragments then dead stop...the ring broke and took part of the piston with it. Sleeve and head were OK after thorough cleaning and a new ring and new piston, it started again last week-end...but the idle mixture setting is off and it has not yet been run in. Not much flying last year except on FS-1 simulator. So to get my flying legs back progressively and safely while the repairs to my Lennon Special and building of a new racer are going on, I purchased an Alpha trainer in perfect condition which I will convert to taildragger. Hoping it will go smoothly with the Team's support ;)

Bon retour Pierre,

To answer a question about THIS OS 50 SX: the engine in question is made in Japan and stamped under one of the engine bearer tabs are the letters VH.

Forgot to mention I changed the Idle needle and O ring so I had to disassemble the carburator. I also changed the fuel line filter as it was letting air into the fuel line.

Comperession is good and after going back to the factory settings, it started right away and was a bit rough at first (rich). So I ran it rich for about 5 minutes, then adjusted High speed setting, then idle mixture and it didn't take much adjustment (-1/4 turn on the HS needle and -1/10 turn on the Idle Mixture screw).

It emptied 2 tanks of fuel (2X10 Oz.) at varied rpm including long idle then accelerated OK, also a few minutes at max throttle. Engine restarted easily after filling-up. Still a bit rich perhaps but better a little rich than too lean for now. The engine is back on its bearers in the aircraft alll all connected up. Now adjust the carburator cylinder positon -vs-the servo travel (control arm -vs-cylinder-vs servo arm) the setting may have changed when I disassembled the carburator the position of the control arm -vs-carb. cylinder-vs-servo arm setting.

That was satisfying.

Ça fait longtemps qu'on a pas eu des threads sur les ajustements de moteur nitro.....:D

Glad to hear from you, Mr Sarault. Very meticulous tuning
