Hi all,

My name is Eric, I am new on the forum so I thought I'd introduce myself. I am 53, never flown any kind of RC aircraft but I just bought a quadcopter which I should receive on wednesday. I set my choice on the Autel X-Star Premium (https://www.autelrobotics.com/x-star-premium/).

I am an overlander, for those who don't know what that is, it means I spend days (or weeks) away driving around in logging roads without any purpose except.....driving around in logging roads :)

I recently created an association (as a non-profit organization) to promote overlanding and responsible use by overlanders of the public lands in Quebec.

I will be using my drone when I am out in the forests to survey ground, find out what roads ahead look like, find places to camp and, last but not least, take aerial photography and footage of places and things that are worth seeing (rivers, panoramic views, etc) for our website.

Obviously, the last thing I want is to crash my drone in a tree on my very first flight so I need a place where I can practice a lot and get fully acquainted with the feel of the RC and the drone's responsiveness.

WIMAC seemed like the perfect place for this so I checked if quadcopter owners can join and was happy to be told so. I became a MAAC member this morning and also mailed in my registration for WIMAC.

I am looking forward to going to the field for my first flight and, though recreational drones appear quite easy to fly, I would be more than happy if an instructor could guide me for that first experience and show me around a little to make sure I don't send my drone in areas reserved for planes.

I received my drone yesterday and I can't wait to try it. Do I need a WIMAC and/or MAAC member card to access the field ?

I would like to go tomorrow.....if I am allowed.

You'll need your MAAC #
But you should try to coordinate with a drone pilot so you won't damage your drone.
See if someone posts to this thread.
You'll find the combination under this menu.
Also read the section about the gate and lock.

I am nobody special but I do follow rules when posted and it seems that no matter how big or how red the letters are a lot of our members either don't access the WIMAC web site or they just dont think they have to follow the rules. I suffer from spinal sinosis and siatica but I still get out of my car and close the gate when I enter or leave as per the club instructions. If I can do it then I think so can everyone else.
