In reading some of the comments regarding the winter conditions at the field some were suggesting that a fishing rod would help in retreiving aircraft from the runway. I would also suggest a golf ball retreiver which in some cases can be extended to 10+ feet and can be modified at the end to whatever fitting you want. It also telescopes back to a shorter length than a fishing rod for transport and is much more solid.

Fishing rod + line + small weight + mini grapple, with a good accurate cast => 50 ft :)

It was just a suggestion to use a golf ball retreiver. I hope I didn't insult an expert fisherman. Couldn't catch a snow trout but maybe a black golf ball?
