Here is an update regarding my $18.79 part from Tower Hobbies. Despite my cancelling the order on Dec 13th with their customer service rep who by the way was not very friendly, told me that it would take up to 10 days to get a credit on my Visa, they shipped the item on Dec 16th irregardless. This was according to an email I received on Dec 17th. I called their customer service back again informing them that the item was shipped and that I would refuse delivery. Today UPS showed up with the item and asked for an additional $17.86 custom charge. I refused the item. So far the $17.89 prop addaptor would have cost me $122.41. As I said be careful if you ever order from Tower Hobbies in the US. I can assure you that this is the last order I will ever place with them.

IN the future have the Item shipped to the Ship-it store in Massena, NY
They charge 1 usd for small packages, cross over the Border in Cornwall, On and you only pay the 5% Gst and duty if they ask, half the time they let me pass through without paying a cent.

Frustrating. I order often from Tower and have never had a problem with delivery to my home in Canada. Sometimes, I pay a little bit of duty but usually not . I must admit that I have never ordered anything that was not in stock. If the items are in stock, I find they ship faster than anyone else.

I have used both http://www.freeportforwarding.com/ and https://www.kinek.com/find-a-kinekpoint/ to get stuff delivered in Champlain (across Lacolle) when it was not available from the local hobbyshops.
Local hobbyshops could usually get anything from the US distributors (Tower Hobby, Horizon...) in the same week at fair price and they take care of shipping, border fee ect.
For sure, you want to avoid Fedex shipping across the border as they charge an excessive fee. I had up to 40% charged from them on a small package.

The story continues. Today I noticed that they credited my Visa in the amount of $100.56 on Dec 16th short of the $104.55 because at the time of credit the exchange rate had changed. This acknowloges the cancellation of Dec 13th however they proceeded to send the part again, which I refused at the door, and re-charged my Visa $106.35. I have advised Visa and they tell me that if I don't receive a credit by Jan 4th they will pursue the issue with Tower Hobbies and credit my Visa card in the process. The Visa agent couldn't beleive that the part I ordered originally cost $18.79 if I had of accepted it from UPS paying an additional $17.56 customs and taxes at the door the part would have cost me $122.41. Never again!!!

These are things I do not know being a new member and new at this hobby. I wonder if it is all worth the effort.

I agree the local hobby shops can get the items you want without the hassle. And that way you support them. If they disappear you will have to wait for the propeller you need for weeks...
