So this is the start. I checked my servos the one that where in the Symetric and the other ones I had lying around, some Eflite S60 some HK 500 and some 900 and one Hit S55. I have to get a new sheet rock for my work table the other one dates from the start of the build of the Harvard.

I like this type of surface has it is very flat and if need be you can insert needles in it.

Be patient I know I'm not speedy Gonzales but yesterday I did the laundry and change the tires & oil on the van and today I just had to resolve that light circuit.

Ok so I did the first step which is to fold the hinge and keep them for at least an hour like this. Also I checked the motor and it fits perfectly the vector mount.

They say in the instructions it should be built in 2 evenings...ya right:rolleyes:

I might pick up speed now since I sorted the parts and figured the mistakes in the instructions. Cant take the indicated measurements of the carbon stick for granted.

I'm using a dropper for the thin CA works great, it's easy to control the flow. I use alum paper to keep it from stick to the work surface. I tried wax paper and it sticks, I tried plastic film it was the worst it melted it. Glass would be the best but I don't have a big enough piece.

I'll try the aluminium on my next one. Thanks for the idea.
It took me about 10 hours to build mine. That would be 2 long evenings :-)

There was an indoor contest in Dubai this week and one pilot was using that airplane. From some pictures I saw, he seems to have build it in his room once he got there.

From the RC Factory Facebook page:
Marek Plichta placed 5th at the Aeromusical competition of the World Air Games (Dubai) 2015 - out of 12 world's best indoor flyers - while flying our EPP Edge V3. Congratulations! Marek has proven again that he is one of the best indoor pilots in the World, and the EPP Edge V3 has proven that it lacks nothing compared to specialized, milled Depron models.

It stills stick a bit to the alum but not too bad to get off.

I find the UHU glue does a nice clean job on assembling all the body parts and CA for the CF parts to get the stiffness.

Tonight.

Just a little trick I sand with 220 grit the carbon fiber parts where they will have glue to make sure it's sticks well. I didn't use UHU just CA thin mostly, just following instructions but it would be doable.

In the steps you have to cut a bunch of rods for the fuse reinforcement so I identified them to make it easier to find them.

Hey Kevin, here is what the airplane can do:

Obviously the pilot is super good but his airplane is the same we have. We need to practice...
It must have been confusing to see the airplane on a big screen while flying it :-)

Looks easy enough:D

It is me or I see something falling down right near the end, also does he have light on the wing or just reflections?

Michel is going to have to green one so he'll have to be able to do that;)

Not sure it's going to be ready for Friday?

A little bit of work tonight. Did the reinforcement of the ailerons and the control horns and the wheel pants. Next step motor mount. Still a lot of work to do and my days at work are draining me so I start late, will try to finish tomorrow but I want to do it right.

He probably had some confetti's dropped from the plane. Yes they are lights on the plane. Both are often used in aeromusical. On this video from Gernot Bruckman, you could see at 1:46 that he drops the confetti's and hover thru them nose down with the VPP. He is really good but wasn't in Dubai.

Yes very impressive I've just watch a video I think it's the same guy on FB from a share of Bob.

I'll just start getting use to control the vortec.

Xavier should I put the control arm of the motor to the inside of the servo arm not to have too much deflection at first?

Kevin Rochon

More progress tonight.

I installed the landing gear and wheel/pants. The motor mount with the pivot ball link. Also the servos; I'm using my Eflite S60 on Rudder/Vortec motor and Elev. and a HK HXT500 on the Ailerons. I will not be using the provided Aileron servo arm has you have to tie on top of a reg arm, I already have a long double arm I just had to make the holes bigger as the rod are bigger than my Symmetric's rod.

Xavier
2015-12-04, 12:47 AM
I didn't connect the motor rod at the end if the servo arm and it still has plenty of movement. Check how much you need so the rudder move full travel and the motor mount doesn't get to the stops. You want as much mechanical advantage to help the servo fighting the gyroscope effect of the prop. Use as much travel of the servo as possible and move the link as close as possible to the servo shaft. Otherwise, it may strip the servo gear at one point.
Stall turns with this are so easy :-)

Nice build thread Kevin!

I find polyethylene plastic film is good for protecting the table and clamps while using CA ... it doesn't melt or stick to the CA. Thin and cheap gloves of the same material are also available.

Where is the polyethylene film available Dwight ? Thanks.

I found some poly...plastic that I used to mask the Harvard. Cleaned it up and it works well, sticks a bit but very easy to take off. Couldn't work on it yesterday but did a lot today.

Got to be careful with the instructions, sometimes you got to think for yourself.

I tried to keep it as straight as possible. It's a bit harder for the top part, had to use the edge of the table.

I should have waited after you're done to take more of your ideas :-)
I flew it again this weekend and it's really a lot of fun. You may want to get a spare set of rudder servo gears. I stripped mine with a less than nice crash landing while doing a low rolling circle. It still works but there is one or two teeth missing for sure...

Looking good Kevin! These things often take longer to build than expected ... especially if you want it nice and straight.

Well did the maiden last night all went ok. I'm getting used to it specially the vector motor, that thing turns on a dime.

The only thing is those Eflite S60 are getting too old and not holding well so will be putting some good old HK500 instead. Also will fix my Elev. carbon rod that kept getting loose. Fortunately Michel Tape trick did the job.

Kevin Rochon
2015-12-12, 10:02 PM
Ok I just put on the servos also instead of using those screw hold for the rod on the Elev. I used Michel system of heat-shrink tubing. I noticed that the rudder is starting to come apart. I put a pieces of filament tape for now. I think my carrying box that I used with the symetric is a bit too small.

Xavier

The prop is a 8x4.3 like a GWS but yellow. Maybe the color make it look small.

Is it a slow flyer prop or a DD prop, which is better?

Slow flyer prop I believe. The one with curved blade contour. Not the one that is almost rectangular. That would be the 8x4 I think. It would work too.

yes I saw this one from FB, funny.
