Frank Reade designed many of these strange airships at the turn of the 20th century and his stories were immensely popular with the younger folks ot the time. Somehow, these flying contraptions ended up in the strangest of places, and their unfortunate occupants had to fend against cannibals, giant octopuses and hostile camel riders. A couple of years ago I took one of my indoor gyro helicopter and replaced the ugly canopy with a boat shaped body, complete with cannon, brass fittings, a balcony, locomotive bell and spoked wheels. It actually looked impressive sailing around the house. A small plastic camel, lion and indian on the living room table added to the effect. Certainly a far cry from EDFs..
