Amazing acceleration on the takeoff roll, and I like the noise high touchdown on the main gear.

The original is at the USAF Museum at Wright Patterson AFB in Dayton, Ohio. Great museum if you ever get the chance. Don't plan on just a couple of hours - you need a lot more than that to see it properly!

Seems a lot faster than the last time I saw it fly. I agree with Andrew, that was one of the best aircraft museums I've visited. I'll have to see if I've got any pics of the XB-70.

Only two XB-70 bombers were ever built. The "bad" one survived, the other one, which was more sophisticated collided with an F-104 during a photo shoot and crashed in the desert, killing a crew member. When flying at Mach 3, the white paint would peel right off exposing the metal skin. Nevertheless, it made the Soviets panic and they built the Mig-25 Foxbat interceptor as a defense.

Here are the pictures of the XB-70 from my trip back in April 2005. They were not on official display. We had to give our passports and board a bus and drive to a hangar on the base.

Thanks for the tidbit of history on the XB-70.
