I was explaining to Michel tonight how I balanced my props so here is the video I thought it might be useful for others too.

Thanks, Kevin. I always balanced the tips but never knew about balancing the hub until you told me a few weeks ago. The video explains it well.

The way he does it of course is for a speedy way to demonstrate.

When I balance a WOOD prop the first step is of course to get it to balance level, ie horizontally, for that I use a can of spray varnish to the lighter end with light coats until it balances, in between I use my heat gun to accelerate the drying. Once that is done the next day(so to be sure everything is dry) I retest the level bal. and adjust if necessary.

Now for the hub I drill a hole on the lighter side and insert small pieces of solder(lead). Where to drill, I test first with some tape just to see to proper position.

For plastic prop I usually scrape with an Xacto, and fo small electric I use Scothtape if it's worth it.

After all that remember that it never stays perfect for long the first time you taxi through the grass it starts getting off bal.;)

P.S. I find it funny when the manufacturer of the prop mentions "Hand Balance" ya right:rolleyes:
