Here’s something I've been wondering about Kevin……..I built my first plane in years during this spring and summer. Balsa kit. Everything fine until I got to the sanding part when I developed a major case of sneezing and sore eyes. I then decided sanding was maybe better outdoors plus a mask over mouth and nose. I also covered up the construction on the workbench with a sheet overnight and when not being worked on. As construction progressed and the plane was covered my problem disappeared. I also tried using a vacuum cleaner and putting the nozzle very close to where the sanding was being done….but this is a serious nuisance and takes some of the fun out of it and I’ve no evidence it was successful. It may have been just recycling the dust through the vacuum cleaner.
After a recent “minor mishap” at the field the wing needed some work. Again, no problem until the sanding started. Same result except somewhat worse. After 10 minutes of sanding sneezing starts, eyes run, etc. So I stopped and covered everything with a sheet again. Sneezing etc. disappeared after 24 hours of Kleenex consumption. I guess seeing as its winter I now have to do the sanding outdoors in 10 min bursts!
My wife who was almost as close to the dust as I was experienced zero problems. Looks like I’m allergic to balsa dust altho’ I never had this when I was younger and have never had any other allergies. Am I sensitive to all balsa dust or just the balsa dust on this plane. And why balsa dust when other dust doesn’t bother me at all?
Has anyone else experienced this?

I'm resurrecting my decathlon for winter flying.
It's an ARF but I have most of the hardware and control rods from the crashed plane.
I'll post some pics soon.

I also get a lot of sneezing and sour eyes from balsa dust but I always thought this was normal.

I started a winter project for indoor flying. It's call S-POU. A ToonScale kit from Stevens Aeromodels.

http://www.stevensaero.com/StevensAero-S-POU-V2.4-Micro-RC-Kit-SAK-SPOU-2.4-p-20354.html

Everything is very small and so fragile. At first I kept breaking parts. It is easier now that the frame is taking form and strenght.
I am using the gearmotor and cardservo from the EFlite Micro Extra300 I flew and destroyed last winter.

Honestly, I don't think this thing will fly. Will see:o

Micheal M. I my self never had a problem with balsa dust but I do wear a mask sometime and I have a dust shop vac. I used to watch on PBS This Old House and New Yankee workshop and Norm Abrams after years of working with wood dust had to get an operation:eek: So we have to be careful.

François I guess this is a take on Le Pou du ciel a french airplane

Try using Nasal irrigation, it is the personal hygiene practice in which the nasal cavity is washed to flush out excess mucus and debris from the nose and sinuses. I use it during hay fever time and do not need to take any medication, also helps a lot when you have a cold.

The pot in this video is the same they sell at the pharmacie here

I reinforced the firewall with some carbon fiber cloth and expoxy resin so this motor won’t rip off the firewall.

Mon micro projet pour cette hiver vas etre d'instaler le power pack d'un micro parkzone 1 cell dans mon Eflite Beast 2 cell afin de le voler a l'intérieur a une vitesse réduite:cool: Estimation des traveaux...2h:D

I think your Pou is fair game to everyone flying there. Is a demolition Derby and the weak will die!
