Nice info, but I still have a question
I was looking to buy Jay Dee's skis for my Alpha 40. I checked Great Hobbies for trike 40 skis and they did not have any in stock for a while. But they have the trike 60. I looked at some post and many are saying bigger is better even for a 40 size plane, but I am worried that buying the 60 size could be to big. What is your opinions?
Here are the size spec, but they do not give the weight
Jay Dee
.40 nose ski 6.75" long 2.25" wide
.40 main ski 10.50" long 2.25" wide
.60 nose ski 8.625" long 2.625" wide
.60 main ski 13.00" long 2.625" wide
Compared to the CJ Model that are somewhere in the middle
.40 to .60 nose ski 8.25" long 2.0" wide
.40 to .60 main ski 11.25" long 2.75" wide

Thanks for your help

You can also build them. Mine are built from a plastic saucer snow luge some plywood block and alum. angle. Saucer at Wall-mart not even 10$ and you can make dozens so dirt cheap and plastic doesn't stick to snow.

I'll post pictures later.

These white ones I used on my .40 size UltraStick and the blue ones on my Cap I will put them on the Extra this year. That's the saucer I used. The Alum. bracket are for keeping the skis level I just put some rubber bands to help. For the tail Wheel I just made a curved wood block. It's ski science not rocket science so don't worry too much about the sizes has long as it's not too big or too small.

Would love to see your skis up close. I guess soon !!with the temperatures we are getting.
Se you at the field.

The most important part of the ski is the "suspension" system that keeps it always slightly up. Base your self on that.
Difficult landings if suddenly the ski tip drops down....

Hi Kevin
Can you do a close up of the bracket?
Thanks

Well I finished cleaning up my workshop and remembered (Eladio reminded me too on the WE) to show the skis. The angled Alum. covered with duct tape no to mar the landing gear this "fork" keep the ski more or less level with the aid of a rubber band. You can see a plastic nose wheel attachement the wheel axle goes through it and is held by wheel collar.

So I finally ordered today from Great Hobbies the Jay Dee's skis for my Alpha 40. But I ordered the 60 size. I hope this was not a mistake since the Alpha is a 40 size plane
Here are the size spec differences, but they do not give the weight
.60 nose ski 8.625" long 2.625" wide
.60 main ski 13.00" long 2.625" wide

.40 nose ski 6.75" long 2.25" wide
.40 main ski 10.50" long 2.25" wide

Since I did not have a chance to fly this summer :owws::censor:, I hope to catch up this winter :partytime:

Jay Dees are the best, and you did the right thing going bigger. All my winter flying planes have bigger skies that suggested. On soft snow is where it pays off.

yes I know, isn't this crazy? And with my luck this year, I will install the skis and we will not have enough snow for me to fly
