Hi guys, need some info.
I like to get a new airplane that I will stick to it instead of getting bored with it fast and ending up selling it as I usually do.

I'll tell you what I am interested into, and then maybe you can advise me accordingly.

Looking for a 3d capable airplane, like an extra, cab, funtana, etc.
Size preferably to be a 50"-65" or so wing span give or take because larger becomes a storage issue and smaller just doesn't do it for me in the air.

The thing is, I would like to maybe try a gas engine. I just like the sound more and it's cleaner and cheaper to run.No electric. prefer an engine.
I have seen some 20-30cc engines from hobbyking and I was wondering how reliable they are.
Also because if I keep it I would want to learn more 3d with it, I would like it to have a nice weight to power ratio so hovering would not be a problem. Basically I like to have more power than I need but I want it to be there.Knife edge, all kinds capable later on.
Also a kind of model that can handle slow flight and landings. I just like that kind of flying style. Being able to fly by slow and taking off vertically with no problem. I hope you get what I am talking about.

What should I be looking for ? What kind of airplane, form where can I buy one, what kind of engine and from where ? Is it a hassle getting a gas engine ? Are they strong ?

Where and what should I be looking for ?

Thank you guys.

Mario.

Mario I like that description of what you want. I'm really interested in the answers because I may look for something like that, that's my kind of plane.

Depending of the gas engines size you want to buy, a good depart could be with a 26cc to 30cc, a 1000 sq/inch minimum for a good and soft landing, here some link http://hobbyhobby.com/store/product/245219/Sukhoi-SU-31-GP-EP-Performance-Series-ARF/ or http://www.generalhobby.com/goldwing-30cc-airplane-p-355.html remember then a gas engine weight near the twice of a nitro motors

I like that yak 54.... this is a canadian hobbyshop I take it ?
What about shipping..
Is this a place you guys would get something like this ?

Also what kind of engine should I be looking for ?
Should I bother with a cheap one form hobby king ? Anyone has any experience with those ? They are 135 bucks for a 30cc, (turnigy)

I know about quality and such, but will it do ? It's not like I want something excellent from the beginning. That would be my first attempt to gas and don't want to break the bank.
It's not like I fly that much like some guys every week. It will not take abuse..

PS. They even have a yak 54 for a 30cc engine for 249.00. I figure maybe it's a cheaper way to start getting something from them unless you guys have heard horror stories about it.

Let me know. Thanks.

By your description you need a 3D plane/engine combination.
You can never go wrong with an Extra 260 or 300, a Yak or an Edge 540.
All the best manufacturers have them (Hangar 9, Great Planes, Aero Works, etc.)
Get the plane first and then fit the motor (you already knew this)
Check Pilot RC in China, they sell a lot of them, well built, good prices, reasonable shipping and you can buy them with the DLE engine. Greg can comment on this.
Radio or engine are not items you want to save money on! Always get the best. Or learn to curse heavy!
You are still the best heli pilot I have seen... do not abandon it but you can sometimes have my heart stop... specially in your grass cutting routines.
You, Tarek, Jim G., etc. all coming to the bright side... we will dedicate the heli area to electric planes!

lol...I am not leaving helis. But I guess if you give it a thought, you will see that by the description of the airplane I want, I always am and always will be fascinated but slow flight/hovering. I like to see my model up close, which is one thing that always deterred me from airplanes as they go by too fast.
If I can get to the level of those guys that hover and do tricks slow, then I'll be happy. But you need a proper airplane for that.....on to the next season !

Here Mario http://www.prcmodel.com/module.php?name=onlinestore&func=viewprod&product=14 I use this 26cc on my Yak. Cheap price, easy to return it on the Garanty or to get piece for, and a not bad engine with a 16/8 prop. But if I was you and as Albert mention, get a DLE:D

Hello Mario!

I did lots of research about gas engines and I found out that the DLE family are the best for the buck and also light compared with others same size gas engines..... very reliable and good price.... I bought a DLE 20CC but I haven't had time to try it.....

Luis is right, I did the same research and ended up with the same answer, get a DLE. I bought a 20cc at Ted's for $259-
I try it and it works perfect ! :)
I use it on a Yak 54, 90 size from Seagull, $199 ARF(Thanks Albert and Claude). But if you want unlimited vertical and hovering in this plane, go for a 30cc.

Hi Julian, This looks good and not as expensive. I guess you are happy with it ?

And it would take a 30cc no problem size wise ?

Mario, if you go to Ted's with this price, they will do it the same price, take a couple of days to get it. If you place the order before monday pm, you can get it friday same week.
I found at RCC and RCU a copule of guys flying this plane with 26cc and 30cc. But maybe you have to do more research about 30cc and this frame.
20cc it's ok, but not wow.

Hi Mario, the store in Ottwa is about 1 1/2 hour drive, I have been there often, Its worth it to go just to see the store, They mostly have everything in stock and every one working there has alot of knowledge, none of the staff try to push u to buy anything, There all a great bunch of guys working there'I forget the guys name , but one of the employees competes in flying 3D planes
