Look like we could use the USA warehouse as the dispatcher in Nord Am. If you go on the HK site homepage, there is a option " at the top left corner "who send you there:) Fast delivery but less choice in lipo battery

I received an order from them. One thing to watch is the shipping. They only had UPS, and minimum was 2kg. I had just about that, so the weight was O.K., but if you want something light you get hit for a big bill. Hopefully they allow USPS at some point. Typical slow HK service to get it out the door, but once it was shipped UPS was quick.
I was worried about brokerage charges from UPS, but I didn't get hit with anything.
Andrew
If it is shipping from the USA, you will receive a bill from UPS later.

Greg is right. It happened to me. Got stuff from Aeroworks and a month later I got a bill for $200.00.
FedEx will do the same thing.
Only USPS collects right of way.

I had been expecting a bill, but it has been about two weeks now, and they have been quicker than that in the past. I`ll let you know...

What is 7% higher?
UPS and FEDEX charge between $40 and $80 for brockerage fees and I have the receipt to prove it.
That's alot of money for just checking off a package.

You can get around the brokerage fees if you choose to do it yourself. You need to get brokerage papers from shipper and pick up your package at Canada customs (near Sources blvd).

Kind of lost on this one. Would the shipping address be your own or Canada custom? If my own, how do they know to hold it at custom and not deliver to my house?:confused::confused:

Use your regular shipping address. A UPS delivery guy told me how to do this. It took some effort but you may find it worth while. In my case I was supposed to pay $35 brokerage fee on a $20 part. Basically, its better to arrange with the shipper to prepare their papers to specify that you will do your own brokerage but not all vendors do this. In my case, I did the paper work after the UPS guy had the package at my house. He told me to simply refuse acceptance of the package. After that, he takes it back to UPS depot near 32nd avenue in Lachine. You can then call UPS and request the necessary "self brokerage" paperwork (if they email it to you, you can save one trip) which they can provide to you within about a day. Once you have the paperwork you take it to Canada Customs (near Sources) and they will ask a few questions and stamp the papers for you. Take stamped papers to UPS depot and they release your package without brokerage fees. Obviously this is not worth the hassle for some people but I wanted to try it out and it worked. Wish I had a link to describe the process better.

If you cannot avoid shipments by UPS you should consider Freeport Frowarding in Platsburg. You request a number, they send it to you, you address your shipment there with your number and they may charge you $ 2..3...4.
Of course it pays if the shipment is large or very expensive but you could also pool some purchases.

I avoid UPS like the pest!

Thank Tino. Freeport is nice also, but this saves you the trip to the US. Will try it next time.
PS will probably be going to the US next month and looking into buying 1/4 inch Fanfold insulation to build an indoor plane. Any body interested in splitting the bundle? I think it comes 1/4 inch X 48 inch X 50 feet, it may be pink or blue. Will see when I get there.

Guys, it's simpler than that, I have done it.
Basically once you get the tracking, call them and tell them to hold the package.
That is done at the Lachine warehouse corner of aut 20.
You get there once it is arrived, get the papers from them, drive to customs over at the go-jit warehouse, next to JD auto at cote des liege, pay your duties and then go back to UPS and get your package.
Did it once, but I find it's too much hustle.
Same thing with freeport. That is only my opinion, but I figure if you can't get it otherwise, then just pay the fees and be done with it. What is the point of driving more than an hour and spend gas in order to go fetch a package to save 30 bucks. My time is worth more than that I find.
I know, I hate the fees too and I find it ridiculous, but....if I am going to pay anyway, might as well get it at my door.

I agree with you Mario.
It happens to be a double edge sword. If you are only looking at the dollar amount, you save. If you take into account your time, gaz and wear on the car etc, you may not save at all ordering from the US or China etc. and trying to save on brokerage. I have ordered a part that cost 6$ + shipping etc at Hobby King (no idea how much the total would of came to) but, called Ted's Hobby Shop, he did not have it, he called me 2 weeks later and I picked it up on my way to Costco for 65$ tax included, no hassle no wasted time and no extra gaz. So, which one was cheaper???? if you take into account all expenses including time???? Buying from HB, paying the brokerage or self brokerage, or buy from Ted's???? and which one was of better quality????
Sure, if you plan on going for a trip with the family to maybe Plattsburgh, you can plan your order to coincide and stop at Freeport on the way. So, for each one, the decision is personal on how they want to handle it and there is no wright or wrong. What is good for one may not be for another.
But this discussion could become endless if we start talking about supporting our local store, economy etc. Did I just open a can of worms?
Happy flying to all and I cannot wait for this summer to start flying at the club (and nnnnooooo I am not ready for some winter flying this year. LOL, thank god it is almost over)

I feel you. I took time off this winter mostly due to activities with the kids (Hockey and soccer every weekend) and because I didn't have any tolerance for the cold lately.
I am dying to start flying though now.
I was renovating the house all this time too and I am finishing my garage soon, (what I call my man cave) and I will be able to put back my heli stuff and work on them finally... up until now everything was out of the way without space to work on them which contributed to my no flying time.
But very soon, the gadgets are coming out. With weather like we would be having this week, it's hard not to want to go flying. :D
This is a matter of common sense... if you are shipping a $100 plane to Freeport Forwarding and driving down, it makes no sense. Try going through customs with $2000.00 in electronics, servos, etc. or having it shipped by UPS. You will pay way more than $30.00...
Hi everyone,
The problem with the express companies is the (exorbitant) charge for brokerage, regardles of wether or not any duties are payable. I have found that the anser is ordering from HK's international warehousder, because stuff from Hong Kong always gets sent via some mail service where Canada Post ends up doing the brokerage at no cost to the buyer! So I always end up using the international warehouse, even for items where the posted price is much lower at the USA warehouse. The USA warehouse only use UPS for shipping to Canada. I hate receiving parcels from the express companies because not only do they rip you off for brokeraging, but they bring back the parcel to some god forsaken location where you have to go and fetch it later if you are not at your front door to receive the parcel the instant the truck arrives!!!!

:)Must agree with Ned.
From HongKong via mail it will take 10 to 15 days after they shipped (last 2 orders was 11 days) and no other fees.
And if it is not a big box, Canada Post leaves it in the mail box. Can't get easier then that.
