Hello, I would like to buy my 1st collective pitch heli.. I have been practicing quite a bit on the sim...I was told I should start with a 450 Trex pro, flybarless..others are telling me I should start on something bigger,,any opinions?.. its just that there is almost a $300.00 differance between the 450 and 500 size..and I also have batteries for the 450 size, because I use them on my electric planes.. any advice would really help..
Thanks, Paul

Bigger is always better as it is more stable. But a 450 size is very economic and can do anything the bigger ones do. We all started with this size at one point or another.
I can't fly anything smaller than a 550 now but that is after I reached where I am now and know what I want.
If money is an issue then get a 450 and if you want to save more if you don't mind me saying, Larry from the club ( finnegan), has one fbl that was looking to get rid off from last year as he is like me and has stuck to bigger helis, and would sell it really cheap. Give him a pm if it interests you. I know this for a fact.
Take care.

hi i just came back to fly and i have to admit maybe its just me but i cant pass de fear of flying something biger then a 450 ....i dont own one anymore but i use to fly like theres no tomorow if i crach 50$ 1/2 houre lather i whas in the sky ....now i go up whit the 550 and the heli change for a $ in the sky i get stiff like a still rod and only do fuigure 8 never got the balls to go inverted....and i can fly inverted but 2 scard
Mario is right the bigger the better you see it its stable but scary (for me)
450 just a litle bit hard to see and less stable(i never try fbl one) but so cheap to fix
anyway just charing my experience....

LOL, that's the nature of the hobby.
That is the perfect by far size. Polls will show that a 700 is the most desirable size but you have to be really into the hobby to handle that. Worry about it later.
Just take it easy and it shouldn't be a problem. As long as it is setup well, it handle A LOT better than a 450 and besides blade cost, all the other crash parts are not expensive. Align has saved us.
Nice choice.
Take care.
