If you are going to venture to bigger helis or airplanes later on, then get at least a 7 ch. The DX7 is a good one that you can keep a very long time.
6 ch is doable but too much hassle and not really worth the trouble. And at some point you WILL need at least 7ch, even more for nitros..
You get what you pay for. Might be over your budget but it will save you money if you see the need of upgrading later on. And you can always sell it easier if you don't stick with the hobby.

Mario is correct. I got a blade 400 that came with a DX6i. It does a perfect job, Both of my blade 400, my blade MSR, MCX2, the Phoenix and RealFlight simulators are programed on it. No complains and happy with it. BUT, I bought a Trex 600 Pro Nitro that has a governor on it (constant RPM control), thus requiring a 7th channel. This does not prevent me from flying the Trex with the DX6i but cannot use the governor option. So I decided to order a DX8 that comes with telemetry giving you info like, battery voltage, temperature of motor or battery, signal quality and my favourite an SD memory card. You can find these same option in a less expensive radio the DX7s but NOT on the DX7 or DX7SE (special edition).
Happy Flying
