Hello Kev,

Well the Hyperion chargers are definitely in the top tier, their high-end Super-Duo 3 sells for $279.99 and add to that a Maxamps 24 volt/47 Amp power supply at $159.99 and you'll have a combo that is able to output 1000 watts(2 ports at 500w max). In my opinion, as was mentioned in a thread a few months ago, the Powerlab 8 V2 from FMA Direct is a better choice because it can deliver in excess of 1300 watts and retails for $249.99. Keep in mind that to make use of the power available from such chargers that you should consider lipos that support higher C charge rates or a parallel charging arrangement. Thunderpower's new line of 65C lipos can be safely charged at 12C rates, that means 5 mins to charge something like a 2s 500mah pack. Thunderpower lipos are still quite pricey, so consider that Hobbyking's 45C-90C series Nano-Techs are 10C charge capable. I cannot vouche for Hobbyking's charge rate claim, but I know Thunderpower's claims to be true because I've been doing it for over 2 years!(charging their Pro Power 45C series at 6C rates for hundreds of cycles) Note that you won't be able to generate enough watts to charge the bigger lipo packs at 12C, however even at 3C charge rates, a lipo is charged in roughly 20 mins or so from nominal voltage. You really can't go wrong with chargers such as Hyperion's new series, the Powerlab 8, Thunderpower 820CD Dual port, Schultze and so on... On a side note, many fliers are simply buying 3 or 4 cheaper Hobbyking chargers and power supplies and charge their numerous batteries all at once! "Same end result". If you must own the very best, then buy the very best, otherwise admittedly, when it comes to lipos and certain chargers at least, Hobbyking works! As far as the Maxamps power supply, it's probably two 12 volt power supplies wired together, you can achieve the same result much cheaper, please see link below. Good luck Kevin, always a hard choice when there is so much choice... ;)

Something like what Richr suggests will need an special permit from HydroQuebec

Thanks Rich,

yes I guess more but cheaper might work, for now I use my old Multiplex basic charger plugged on my portable car booster thing. I charges at 2 amps max which is not a problem so far for the Trex 450 but when I go to bigger Heli it will take something with more power.

How about that TP 610c it's AC/DC so that's practical + save on buying a PS then a charger. I think it's 10 amps charge.

Well I think it's time to go to the field and fly.:D

I own a TP610C AC/DC, in AC mode plugged into the wall socket you cannot charge a 3 cell lipo at a greater rate than 4 amps (Any attempt greater than 4 Amps will generate an Input failure code). The small power supply in this all-in-one charger is not a good option for larger batteries.

P.S. If Hydro-Quebec comes knocking on my door asking the nature of my set-up, I'll simply say it was the work of my mentor, Don Alberto!

Well after speaking with all you guys yesterday and specially Danny, he told me that Addison has those computer PS power supply which are 17amps and up that you can get for a fraction of the price of the hobby ones and those are switching PS so regulated clean DC output, just have to do a little modification to the wiring.

Hey Kevin,

Actually, Addison sells their surplus power supplies for 17.99. The one I saw in there catalog puts out 20A at +12V.

If I remember correctly, Access Electronics on Brunswick Blvd also has a good collection of PSs. Although I never checked for specs. Access may be a good choice if you want to avoid east end traffic on the 40. Yuuuuukkkkkk !!!!!

And, of course, you can find one on EBay at a great price.

Cheers,
Dan

Just looked through Addison's catalog, the computer power supply is rated at 450 watts. Nice find! I think I'll swing by and pick up a couple! Please exercise caution whilst re-wiring these things!
