The MIG 29 Fulcrum Journey as start !
First I have set some re-enforce with the Automative glue for the EDF hatch door's.
As most of time model made of fiberglass have some dry area that need to be re-freash.
Do this if your feel and hear craking sound while handle the fiberglass part's.
Now they dont crack sound while handle anymore ...
https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/_VmYRAkGRDhw/TXn3gKLBn2I/AAAAAAAAC0A/dgKe3j7Yh24/s720/Picture%20046.jpg
You wont be sorry later to do that process ...
Next to come is to re-enforce all in there and where it need automative glue to freash it up
and bond well all those fiber that join together ....

It maybe not much fun now to do this, but worth the effort to a lasting flying MIG 29 jet in my collection.

Nice looking plane.
Tell me though how is it controlled? I don't see no rudder no ailerons, I guess all is done through the flying tail surfaces?
Hope the B25 is not going on the back burner too long.

Yea Kev,
it's all control from the back section ...
I will add rudder for shure and maybe flaps that is very tempting ...
At the moment I am reading what are the isseus to be fix and have
a long lasting jet into my collection ...
It all come as a suprise as I was not going for a other build at the moment
as I am on the Mitchell going build. I hang since a fiew years with some TOP GUN master in the jets industry and they thought I was the deserving Jet MAN pilot that deserve a jet prize at the moment in is life for all the involment I have done & still do.
Been a great supporter and involve my self alote in that industry beside them.
So they had this MIG kit sent to me so I can start my journey with my hair on fire and to work my scale talent on a fast mover as they mention to me lately.
I was bless somehow as I was not expecting anything. But it seem that I am deeply appreciated from some of the industry Jets guy's ,, by that action they decide I had to get one jet to be a part of the gang in someway with this smaller MIG 29 Fulcrum jet from HET.
I appreciated this deeply from them and wont fall behind with that MIG that's for shure ... Now I'll be able to fly with one of my buddy club member at MRCC that fly the small EDF MIG-15. Maybe Paul will fly is jet too this year.
It all depend on is eyes I guess,, but I'm shure he will be fine and fly off with me also ...
Cool, I never thought I would wear a RED STAR on my hat ,, but yes I will now ... :D
More to follow soon guy's ,,, the last 2 months have been kind of busy
on my side beside the hobby. But all should come back to normal with that March month.
Thanks for your great support and comments buddies ...
Will come back with more done on her ,, the Russian ladie MIG ... :D

Some up-date ...
Been reading alote about this model kit on some build thread.
Some fly it lite and some fly it heavy like 9lbs ... Ouff ...
Great model for shure if kept very lite. So got on the move in someway
and stripe her down to the bone ... Kept the top dorsal red color and front nose black and greay silver nose cone.
Sanding, sanding, sanding as been on my schedule days lately.

Yea to bad for
that toy color scheme Paul ...
It look like a toy with that air show colors scheme on ...
Beleive me ... lol ...
So it will be all done a other way now ,,, and why not ...
For the weight ,, well it fly at 9lbs no swet and with authority.
So a little NEW paint on her wont hurt ...
I have no idea on the new colors and scheme yet.
But it will come in my mind soon no problem ...
That is a great size model to learn stuff on while building in process ...
I'm having a ball with it right now and that is priceless ...
Will be up-dating soon ...
You will be hard pressed to paint it in a scale color scheme and still be able to see it in the sky at the speeds it will need to be flown at to keep it from stalling.
Regardless of the colors, it will still be a toy.

2011-03-16, 09:11 PM
Ya Greg like Ray used to say "it's just a toy"
If it flies as fast as Rich one won't matter what colour you see it for .5 sec. if the paint is not quite dry it will be left behind:D

No,
I mist that (.) lol ...
yesterday was so nice right after lunch that I
got the MIG fuse outside and a chair and sand down the Russian one.
Was a breeze to work outside and getting that MIG in any position for a
great sanding process.
We were like a Moscow Ballet dancer couple like my cousin in Moscow while
he was a ballet dancer there. To bad no one were around to photoshoot that ... lol ...
La,,,lalalalal,,lalala !!! ... lol ...
Now the fuse look awesome ... Will do more sanding on it to make a finish
result's totaly superb. Till now it look that way ... Totaly superbly smooth ...
Not shure I'll keep the covering on the wings and elevator. The mono cover as some air inbetwen underwing area. Will see if I will primer over the mono or I will rip off to have the balsa sheet wings. As I have to inplant a re-enforcement wood part so the wing don't rip off when doing hight G pull ...
That is a issues that had got fix and got to do it as mention from manual and forum's.
So I will need anyway to rip off the mono cover under the wings to acheive that re-enforcement.
Till now all looks good to fly this spring ... Befort the Mitchell for shure ...
Again, anyone know's what is Poly-C product?
http://www.poly-c.com/
Poly-C™ is an industrial Polyurethane water based varnish with an additional additive that is used to cover models with Nylon, Tissue or Glass cloth. It is very similar to glass resin although there is no mixing and it is water based. It usually dries in 20 - 30 mins in a room temperature and although it doesn't dry as hard as glass resin it certainly is strong enough for a light weigh covering. 1 500ml bottle should cover a standard size plane similar to an Acrowot with approx 4 - 8 coats. Being water based it goes a long way.

to sand-down with a smoother liter sand paper today to finish them ready.

Was very windy outside yesterday and it help blowing the dust over my part's
I was anding down. I Also when over the fuse and sand down with a liter sand paper

Been having thought's about the color scheme design I will do.
At the moment I have some great idea's and think I found what will be at the paint job menu later.

Then got back ont he veritcal rudder fin's.
Was to sand down with lite sand paper. Finish that at the end of the day
and result looks awesome and ready for primer soon.
Now I have found 2x small Hitec HS81 servo's that i had from a past kit.
They are brand new from the box and will inplant them in the rudder's
verical fin's interior side to activate rudder fonction soon.
Will look at the wing's today ...

No Bud, not flying off corn field friend ,,, lol ...
I have places to go if I need a calm asphalt place now, and betetr then the
one I had in the past ...
But to answer you properly BH ,,,
I will be at MRCC as a member this year, and will fly off there.
The MIG will be flown there also. But if I need some asphalt for the pleasure to have asphalt and fly off that MIG,,
well that issue as been taken care off ...
The Mitchell should do fine at MRCC as we have a great long short grass runway there. That will be somthing to fly off from and land this summer.

Now,
was yesterday testing the wing covering glassing on a piece
of balsa sheet test part. As mention befort I have made the use
of some hair spray MEGA hold product and made a 2 coats pass then
let it dry 20 min's in betwen coats.
https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/_VmYRAkGRDhw/TYxnsBCPBHI/AAAAAAAAC28/lAHVzJAO7u0/s720/Picture%20132.jpg
That action the balsa sheet wont suck in the glassing product use.
Befort the next step I needed to sand down a little the balsa wood sheet.
Next was to apply floor varnish with a small brush on the balsa sheet wood.
Did one pass coat and let it dry 12 hours. Then second coat was apply till dry.
Little was apply and brush it till flush and silk. Don't over do it at this stage ...
Look amazing as glassing goes and finish. This week end will test the first coat
of primer on the balsa sheet wood tester. Will come back with the result soon.
Also I have done a little on the elevator's and start to look at the dorsal shape
of the SMT version MIG 29 Fulcrum to be done in proper size and shape.

More have,
been done on the dorsal making of the SMT MIG 29 version type class.
To make a perfect fit of the dorsal unit part, I have laydown a sand paper #80
on the dorsal of the MIG. Then took the foamy dorsal part and did some foward and backward action pass to sanddown the foam to become later as a perfect attach join fit via the top fuse dorsal of the MIG and the foamy part of the dorsal SMT class type.
Till now it as come to a nice align fit. But more sanding and more fitting are to come as to make the canopy fit equaly to the dorsal new part.
I will keep this process simple and will re-produce as close as scale this unit dorsal part. Will gain little weight as the foam is empty inside so that gives me less weight at final acheivment.
I shure love the beefy style it gives the MIG as look now with the SMT dorsal making ...
Please till now ...
More to come and to show process soon ...

The dorsal,
making is still going strong at the moment.
Was looking around in my old wood junk box I have around
and found from older kit a remain parts that as fit my need
about the joining of the canopy and the dorsal foam part.
https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/_VmYRAkGRDhw/TZbuJi4RQ-I/AAAAAAAAC6M/gaDfTcuReIU/s720/Picture%20206.jpg
Sometime we find stuff that fit perfectly are expectation on a particular
way a part should be done. That one was already done the way I need it to be with the right cutting at the right place.
https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/_VmYRAkGRDhw/TZbvA0T6TmI/AAAAAAAAC6c/bkW_dFLCiKo/s720/Picture%20207.jpg
So I got this joining canopy foamy dorsal together for a test fit.
Wow, it fit like a glove ball, like if it was made for that in there.
https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/_VmYRAkGRDhw/TZbulX0YZuI/AAAAAAAAC6U/TVX2JmM_pgE/s720/Picture%20209.jpg
In betwen and behind that round woody part I will add
a kind of black material that is very lite as weigh and strong and
will join in betwen the foam dorsal part and the canopy.
I also gone be using that white & black material that is lite as weigh too
and will re-enforce some specific area in the fuse to keep all fuse weak structure
strong and to not have any Vibration in fuse.
https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/_VmYRAkGRDhw/TZbu9KoPJgI/AAAAAAAAC6Y/HDIoD5wWpRg/s720/Picture%20216.jpg

As I am,
In betwen 2 build projects I have got time to work
a little on the MIG SMT version.
Yesterday,
work on the dorsal and windshield canopy. Did cut all the canopy
extra plastic to have a perfect fit on the fuse and align the dorsal
so it fit nice together on ...
All the paint on the MIG as been sand down now and no old paint
is remain. Other thing to fix is the magnets for the fans area cover.
A fiew weeks a go when I was sanding her down I got 3 magnets
that came loose. So will apply epoxy to re-inplant the magnets correctly.
The I will have to fix the canopy glass windshield to the wood part that
will be holding down the canopy in place with magnets to the fuse. Will have
to custom something in there so the glass canopy side attach greatly to the wood part as it as a little (mm) free space on eachside of the attach area parts. I will probably use a piece of pink foam to fix that on eachside ...
