In order to compensate for all the horrible noise that Mike will make flying his plane I will bring to the field this one...
Seagull Edge 540 (I seem to be fixated in the Edges, they are sweet flying planes)
.46 to .55 glow
Replaced by:
E-flite Power .60 motor
Castle Ice ESC 100 (quite a bit of overkill here!)
5s or 6s lipos, will see.
I hope the battery (and the plane with it!) will fly....
Tino flew one of this last season...

PS: Mike, it was not my intention to steal your thunder... (pun intended!)

All we need now Michael , is a noise reduction:D Albert, for a .60 E-flite a 100A ESC could be too huge . I mean the motor max burst is 60A, to be safe a 70A should be ok:)

Did you find the way to build a noise reductor for your 17cc muffler:)
Sempai-mj
2011-02-19, 12:48 PM
Yes Richard, I have them made. My next test is to install one in my muffler and see how much I can reduce the noise, when I find the right size that works I'll configure the same for your engine.

I had a thought, Albert will like this becuase it involves an electric solution.....
I'll stuff a small electric motor into the tail pipe to reduce some noise:D:D:D:D

Great work Michael. but I think you will have to open a bit more the cowling for colding your gas motor. The motor head need to be clear:cool: maybe a little one inch window on top of the cowling could help but waite for other opinion

Bon point Richard,
The other side of the cowl where the muffler is, is really open because I had to cut it a lot to get the cowl over the muffler.
Do I need inlet cooling vents in the front of the cowl?
or
Letting the heat exhaust is enough?

Experience says that the hot air has to have an outlet twice (at least) as big as the inlet.
Hey Mike, a great plane for towing up a glider, easy to install a tow release just behind the wing.
