Hi my name is Alex,

I have a feeling Santa is going to bring me a rc heli for christmas so i decided to look for a nearby club in case i ever need help. Turns out you could almost hit a golf ball from the wimac runway to my house so i'm in luck!

I figured i'd introduce myself and actually I have a question right off the bat, should i learn to fly my heli in mode 1 or mode 2? does being left handed have anything to do with it?

Nice to meet you and thank you for the help (=

I would suggest you go with the mode that almost everyone around here use. That is the trottle and tailrotor on the left stick. It is equivalent to the trottle and rudder on the left stick for airplane that most people use in Canada and US.
I switch mode to the trottle and aileron on the left stick 2 years ago because I think it has advantages for aerobatics but I didn't changed my heli mode.
I am left handed and I can't say that it makes a difference in the mode.

Thanks, ill have to change the mode then so i can be like everyone else.

Also i have been thinking and, considering how uncannily close i live to the wimac field, should i be worried about what frequency i will use? I live within a kilometer of the field and all the places i plan to practice are in the area. I wouldn't want to cause some accidents so this might be a precaution to take, perhaps designate a frequency that you guy will 100% of the time always leave open if it is necessary?

Alex,
You should buy a radio on the 2.4GHz band - they are virtually all like that now. The 2.4GHz radios automatically select free channels when they are turned on, so no interference issues.

Why not consider becoming a member of WIMAC? Much mere fun to be around a bunch of other pilots to talk to and learn from than flying alone.

When you start flying airplanes you need a lot of help.
When you start flying helis you need tons of help. Or it will cost you some pretty dollars.
Do not bypass becoming member of a club where you can have that help.

Besides, we are a nice bunch of guys, if I may say so.

Haha (= well thanks for all the welcoming words guys. No doubt i will end up checking the club out at some point and get to meet some of you.

For now I am still waiting for the postman, and if any of you are curious i am getting a micro walkera 4g6s, out of the box. I know its not a trainer heli but, thats how i roll.. going to be a while before i even try to get it off the ground though, i plan to take this very slowly.

Don't know how far i will take this hobby yet, the winter will let me know if its a passing hobby or if i get obsessed. I will keep you guys posted, obviously if i get addicted i will need people to share the experience with.

Anyways, thanks again for the help, I'll be back!

If you do it right you probably will never ever get it out of your system...!
