Hi guys, I might be looking to get an airplane from the US, maybe 3dhobbyshop, and noticed they don't mention shipping to Canada anywhere on their site.

Freeport would be my other option I guess but since I have not used it ever I wanted to know if I need to open some kind of an account or not.

Do I just send it there like that or what ? Anyone can chime in with some more info I would appreciate it.

Thanks.

BTW, I was looking to get something like Rich has, an electric airplane, and I was told about 3dhobbyshop. Is that a good place or is there any other with similar planes and prices. As you know I am Heli guy, so I don't know much about airplane shopping...

Richard got a great plane (Extra 300) at 3DHobbyshop.
Freeport forwarding: you have to send them a form (find it in their Web site) required by the USPS (and probably any other carrier). They will give you a number and instructions how to put the shipping address in your purchase.
I understand they will not call you, you know it arrived there by tracking the package. The charges are minimal.
I have a number, if you want you can use it, I will pick up the plane and then thank you for it.... heee, heeee....
David uses it. You can pay for the pickup gas expense by filling up in Platsburgh....
Be sure you avoid UPS shipping into Canada, they kill you with Custom processing.
Talk to the Hobby shop, they may use USPS if you ask them.

I've used them on several occasions over the years. They look like a disorganized warehouse but so far no problems. You will be charged a pickup fee, something like $3 or $5 CAD or USD.

I've so far, to date, never had to send them any identification but I have heard others had to. I suspect it depends on who and how it is being shipped. All my major purchases with Troy Built Models has been shipped by UPS to them.

But, on the grounds that this hobby shop refuses to ship to Canada, regardless, I would not deal with them. Who do they think they are?

Actually I found out that they have another web site for international orders.
ADC hobbystore.

In any case I am looking at my options..

Thanks.

Adchobbystore.com is 3DHobbyshop's International dealer and they ship directly to Canada, I've dealt with 3DHobbyshop and ADCHobby and there service is stellar, just ask the thousands of customers on rcgroups.com. 3Dhobbyshop used to ship directly to Canada but because of the overwhelming popularity of this brand in the U.S. they designated an international dealer to cope with demands. Feel free to visit rcgroups.com by clicking the following link: http://www.rcgroups.com/3d-flying-188/?

Proof is in the pudding, they have the 3D electric market cornered, and Mario seeks to fly 3D, therefore he should simply 'Fly The Best' coincidently the 3DHS motto. The comment that a brand shouldn't be purchased or dealt with because they do not ship to Canada is nearsighted at best, 3DHobbyshop accomodates it's international (Canada included) customers through it's ADCHobbystore dealer. It pays to be informed!!!!!

Nearsighted? Come on Rich...

Their website is poorly designed. It doesn't say a thing about this other website. In fact, going to this other website, it doesn't even look like the same design or company.

And still:

UNITED STATES ON-LINE ORDERS ONLY
(Puerto Rico, Hawaii & Alaska Customers MUST CONTACT US VIA PHONE OR E-MAIL)
WE WILL ACCEPT INTERNATIONAL ORDERS FROM ALL COUNTRIES VIA E-MAIL REQUEST ONLY

lol... ;) Greg, you crack me up( I knew I set myself up for that), my nearsighted comment was a direct response to your sweeping "Who do they think they are?" comment. While I definitely agree with you on the website leaving much to be desired, they are in the business of building Arf's, and are one of the top manufacturer's for 3D aircraft, in my opinion. Jamie Hicks flies for them, Andrew Jesky and Scott Stoops both design and fly their planes, so they are top quality. I have had nothing but success with their planes. Greg, you're an excellent pilot, take my Extra for a 5 min whirl and then tell me whether you would recommend it to someone. Regards!

Beto, no flare up! Greg's a cool dude, I'm trying to get him to buy a 3Dhs 'electric' plane, but it doesn't seem to be working out too well, haha

Greg, if you can get James to sell something, you have all the potential to be the next prime minister of Canada. And I quote: "I don't sell anything!" I've tried (many times) and to no avail...

Greg, wait, Richard is going to work abroad in 2 months and the Extra 300 will go for a song. However, you have a lot of eager buyers waiting...

Re Freeport, you don't need any special form, just order your product and tell the seller the shipping address and to your attention. Also phone no on the shipping label. No matter which way they ship, as many dealers in the states have free shipping within the US or a nominal shipping fee. The charge is 3 dollars in Canadian dollars. I have always paid only in CDN dollars. you can phone them to find out if it arrived, then go and pick it up, but before you do, you drive one exit past the one you are supposed to turn off and fill up with gas, you will save like a lmost a dollar a gallon which will pay for your trip. then go back to freeport, go in at the counter, tell the girl, your name, she will get the paper, tell you it is 3 dollars, go in the back or go to the dock if it is a big box and the guy will bring to the edge, put it in your ca, and head for the customs. bring in your invoice only, go to the counter, they will look up the price on their computor to make sure you are not telling them a lie about what yout paid, so don't do the make a receipt for only so much, that does not work. they know all the prices. go pay your taxes, no duty and then they will give you a code and go back to your car, drive to the gate, punch in your code and head home happy.
That's it that's all.

I agree, but I would not chance it. You get caught once and that is it for you. Never again, you would be trusted by them. The best thing to show is your credit card invoice which is usually in the package. Because sometimes you get the item on a real sale discount. So when they look it up, they say you paid 300 dollars, and it shows here that it is 500 dollars. I tell them that I bought it at such and such place and it is on sale, here is the phone no or their web site. This happened to me last year. The check it, and no problem. I paid the taxes on what I was billed.
Also I ask the dealer to write made in the USA, because they can charge you duty if it is made in China. That is why only bring in the invoice and your copy of payment. Not the item.
