Jeremy, congratulations and thanks for your article about UAVs and the regulations surrounding them. Well written and informative as well as relevant to the topics that have come up lately in these forums.
I also enjoyed the article under "Rc Sport Flyer" concerning the need for MAAC and RC clubs. Though the grammer and syntax were not great, it did lay out the case for association with other people of like mind. Getting out messages like this should reduce the flare-ups of "Why should I join" that we get on a regular basis.
Things are looking up for RC up here in Labrador. Two guys that looked at my planes the other day now are asking their wives for trainers as Xmas gifts. Who knows, we may end up with a new club next summer, as long as I don't trash their new toys too quickly. Am I correct that if I, a MAAC member and former club instructor, buddy box with them, then they do not initially require MAAC membership. Of course, they would join as soon as they begin to fly on their own. We would be flying at a local private airport with the owner's permission.

Hi Brian, thank you for the kind words on the article. It is good to know that someone reads the magazine. MAAC members should have a basic understanding of the regulations concerning model flying. Any who plan on turning their hobby into a business venture need a deeper understanding to avoid getting into trouble with the law.

I believe that MAAC allows for an introductory flight, but you can get more information on the Insurance Committee section of the MAAC web site. I look forward to seeing the formation of a new club in Labrador. It will have a great chief instructor.
