F3C World 2009

The trip took 14 hours but pass very fast. I took the American side to go down by Interstate 90. Every 200 Km the temperature went up 1 degrees, by the time I
Got to Muncie it was 33 and humid.

AMA location is great 1000 hectares, lots of room to fly. Today was the semi finals, Canadian Scott Gray fought well but could not take first place for now; Hiroki Ito from Japan is number 1 for now. Got to see Mark Ryder is daughter (Interviewer and photographer) and Dr Ben.

I hook-up with 3 members from Club CRASH the rest of them are expected for Wednesday.

We plan to fly tomorrow morning before the competition that start at 9:00 and in the afternoon. Workers are preparing the field and tent city for IRCHA it’s going to be BIG!!!!

Her are some pictures from Saturday Fun Fly pictures at club Mars

Today was the final of the F3C. Scott Gray was trailing Hiroki Ito by only 29 points for the world Cup. Both flew terrific runs but in the end Hiroki Ito won. :(

The guys from CRASH and I are even on the pictures of day 9 on Runryder:D http://www.runryder.com/helicopter/rrTV-Photo/contest/WORLDS2009/?script=09MonPhoto (http://www.runryder.com/helicopter/rrTV-Photo/contest/WORLDS2009/?script=09MonPhoto)

The village for IRCHA is taking form, all vendors are filling up display, lots of temptations…. lots of great new stuff to buy.

The 8 years old sensation got in tonight for a few practice flights. I whish I could fly like him just once!!!.

Peter Graves came prepare with lots of superb scales in an amazing trailer. IRCHA start officially tomorrow.

We are even on some of their pictures.

IRCHA Day 1 :D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D
This morning was cold (58) and foggy up to 11:00 then suddenly the sun came up and in 30 minutes fog was gone and it was 85. Most of the merchants and company put up shop. Only 2.4 radios are allowed on the main site, no radio control. Scales have a reserve spot in front of our tent we fly at will. This year lots of nice big scales. Lots of turbines!! The smell on the fly line is amazing.

I met the engineer who designs the Helicommand system. He gave me 40 cm extensions I was missing to reach the module since I move all electronic
in the back. Tomorrow he will help me set it up. So I reinstall the 3 blade head and hope to fly it soon.

Starting tomorrow there is a lot of conferences on equipment. I plan to attend to

OS motors setup
Turbines 101
Mikado VBar
Skookum Flybarless
Scales Helicopters

We had another perfect day, sunny no wind, 85 degrees. This morning somebody brought a 50% rc plane for a demo. 6 feet tall the cockpit is empty and big enough to sit in it.

At 9 this morning at the pilot briefing there was 562 pilots register and more to come this weekend . Now there is close to 175 scales, enough the IRCHA is thinking of doing a separate jamboree for scale. The prizes table was setup today, lots of nice prizes to be won. The grand prize is not there yet and promises to be special.

I got together with the guy from Helicommand and setup my heli. In the process the throttle servo was reverse. With a remote starter I could not stop the heli. I tried to give pitch up to stop the motor but the HeliCommand setup made controlling the ailerons impossible. There was cameraman, photographers and 20 persons close to the heli so I did the only thing safe, brought-it to the ground and hold it there with negative pitch. The motor lasted 5 minutes full blast before busting a hole in the piston. Damages are less than expected. :(
1- Motor
2 – Broken left door ( still missing one piece but should find it)
3 – Flir dummy camera destroyed

Tomorrow I will try to beg OS for a new motor or to fix-it or by a new one, but it will fly again in Muncie….without the HeliCommand (for sale) and install a new Sk360 instead. Lucky for me at 10 tomorrow morning there is a seminar on the SK360 setup:cool:.

Ouch! thats sad news Denis I do hope it will be ok next time.
Flew Serge's Lama today on the 3 blade with no electronic assist.
Its a hand full but just different to fly and CG is also different.
I have to programe the throttle respons on the ESC for next time :)

Sorry Denis for your loss.
I'm shure you figure out somrthing. It's sad to see a scale machine get damaged.
But if you want I have a brand new SK-360 with the field LCD so we can trade with the hellicommand.
Never used it. Let me know.
Don;t buy one we'll trade and pay the difference. Okay"
Cheers

Another perfect day, sunny 88 degrees and no wind:spin:.

:plane:To get perspective on the 50% I took some pictures with my truck beside it.

The EC120 is fix, new motor OS 91 E made for Align 700 (310$us) I will remember-it. The only thing I did not find yet is the top part of the door. I will fly it tomorrow morning; I want to let the red locktite 24 hrs to set. I now have both Helicommand and SK360 in the heli so I can compare. I the Skookum seminar I found that a new version SK720 will come out in 2 month with self levelling like Helicommand. The seminar was given by the test pilot and the software designer. They admit that HeliCommand is the best and try to copy all its basic function. The tail jumping will be automatically fix in the new version.

Lots of demo flight today by the best pilots. Blades touching the ground sideway or inverted is the new sport! A lot of crash from the sponsor pilots, Greg from MRC Hirobo was asking his pilots to cut the grass and was jumping of joy on every crash, curious guy.
Tonight GAUI was organizing a poker tournament, $4000 of prize nice girls
:censor:
to serve the free food and beer for 60 peoples. They even had a bus service to any hotels for drunks. I finished 8 and got a new GAUI 450. Tomorrow after the night flying competition GAUI is putting on a 20 minutes firework with sound.

2 more days to go, I would gladly stay another week, but have to go back to work on Monday.:(

Saturday was the best day. The scale competition, static and flying routine, shoed me what I need to complete (Documentation, plans, picture of the real one and learning the impose flight routine to be able to compete.
The same guy from last year won. His machine was not the best by is flying score 100%. He shoed me lots of things to correct for next year.

I took a few picture of the ¨”Babes” they run around in carts all day, useless but nice to see.

Jean-Luc, (or is son, he went to get 2 prizes a small body for a GUAI and the big prize) a member from CRASH won the grand prize Align 700 complete with all the bling and gas tested by one of the 3D pro and a Futaba 10 channels.

I took some pictures of the knight flying but my camera is useless at night. The spectacle was grandiose and 20 minutes of a classy firework with music closed the night. Thousands of pictures and film will be posted on Run Ryder soon, don’t miss them.

This was by far the best vacation for a helicopter pilot, you have to go once in your life. I have some goodies for the heli guys who made requests, I will bring them with me at the club. I need to finish testing my EC120

Turbines 101? Does that mean that you are thinking about taking your scale projects to the next level?

The best scale I saw were electric, up to a 6 feet long Jet Ranger. The space gain is use to build better interiors, reduce weight and stay clean.
