To all concerned regarding the television interview this Saturday, April 21st, 2007 at club Brossair who are in a fight for their existance against the Quebec Agricultural Farm protection act:
We would like to have as many modelers out at Brossair RC club. Bring a plane. This is important for all of us. The more publicity about our situation, the better chance of us winning this cause. Then it will make it easier for other clubs who have a need to move will have the opportunity to locate on existing farmlands without any worries of losing their field to government political policies.
Be there at 12PM noon. Plane or no plane!
Planning to be there tomorrow early after work and most of the weekend. Going to be a beautiful weekend for flying.

They want as many modeles as they can get. All you need is proof of you MAAC membership.

Svp arriver vers 11am.

Please arrive at 11am tomorrow Saturday. Community TV will be there, as
well as the CTV network and maybe the CJAD radio station (to be confirmed).
I spoke to Radio-Canada television, and they will definitely run a story on
our problem, however, they are not sure they can make it for tomorrow
morning, so we might have to repeat the get-together later this week or next
week-end.
Benny Milhomme, one of the co-founders of BrossAir in 1984, will be there,
and the official mouthpiece for the BrossAir club will be Jean-Gabriel
Roumy. The representative for the MAAC will be Bob Forest.
So far I would say that our media campaign is very successful.
Best Regards,
Pascal Forget

Subject: Upcoming ( saturday April 21/07 ) press ; TV conference re farm protection act
To all concerned re television interview this Saturday at club Brossair re
fight against agricultural farm protection act:
je suis en accord avec Richard Biron.
Samedi le 21 avril , Bob Forest sera pr?sent a la part de MAAC a Bross Air.
je regret que ne suis pas capable d'?tre la a cause d'un ?v?nement
religieuse.
les point clefs qu'il ( Bob) va mentionner sont:
Reason to object to eviction due to farm protection act ( CPTAQ)
1. Model Airplane club ( Bross Air ) and all RC clubs combined in this
region are Only using less than 2 % of all available agricultural lots with
many millions of unused ,unfarmed acreage in same area
our flying fields are thus no threat to reduce farm output
2. Removal and relocation of all flying clubs to one or two locations
only would lead to over congestion at too few spots and cause danger to
citizens and fliers alike;
3. No where else to go if evicted; all other areas are also valuable ;
would not leave any more safe spots to fly for our modelists; young and old
alike
4. this club ( Bross Air ) Always regarded as a clean club ; no
environmental pollution; no garbage dump on this our site; we are good
citizens and respect the land.
5. Since 1984, this club has been working with youth; this helps keep
kids off street ; away from drugs; spend time with parents

I made it out for a few minutes around lunchtime - seemed to be a good crowd, including a number of WIMAC members. I saw Ronald, Erik, Dwight, Bob, and Stephane. Apologies of I missed someone. Tough to believe that Brossair is somehow going to compromise the agricultural output of Quebec.

I also uploaded some of my photos to our Photo Gallery (http://www.wimac.org/photopost/showgallery.php/cat/519).

Hobby planes may be grounded
A South Shore club for remote control plane enthusiasts is in danger of shutting down.
Club Brossair operates on a small piece of farmland in Brossard, but the Quebec government says the club doesn't have the right to be there.
Club Brossair members have been flying small planes over the field for 23 years, with the landowner's permission.
"There's been no complaints whatsoever to the police," said Bob Forest of the Model Aeronautics Association. "No problems of noise or pollution or just bad activity, you know what I mean, there's been nothing here."
Nevertheless, a goverment commission says flying planes above the field violates agricultural zoning laws. Club Brossair's founder says that's ridiculous. "You have a field right now that's not even being harvested for anything," said Benny Milhomme. "Come in a couple of months and you'll see it's full of weeds."
The government recently shut down two other flying clubs in Napierville and Marieville. Club Brossair is asking for a public consultation on the issue, in the hopes of convincing the government this land can be used for a lot more than agriculture. Video
