Paul G and myself were in Lachute today (I am member there) to enjoy that great day of flying.

A little video:
YouTube - Broadcast Yourself.

Note: the change in quality of the image from the FlyCam before and after the timing 3:00 is because I had not noticed that there was a protective film on the lence (thanks Paul). Not only the little color dot but also a thin plastic. Beware :-)

Be carefull. MAAC may not like you talk about a crash, show pictures of a crash, say there has been a crash, think that there might be a crash, ect...

http://maac.ca/view_news.php?itm=353

For me it doesn't make sence to a point. When a crash happen in full size or on the road or in car racing, the results of the investigation are made public so someone else may benefit from knowing the cause and avoid doing it too.

Well maybe MAAC should know that planes and helis do crash and since everybodys got cameras today they should get used to the fact that people post stuff and yes people do talk about it because we want to know HOW things happen and most of us try to avoid doing the same!

I agree. How else would we know what the cause of the crash was if noone post any info. If you go to RR you can read stories of crashes and what caused them and what people did to correct them.
You don't have to show pictures of it of video but you can talk about it and ask for advise.

Whats the point in not wanting people not to talk about it. Maybe they should type rc crash in the searchfunktion of U Tube and see what pops up!?!?! OMG who the hell posted all of these....When people want to see they will see in times like these. Just my 2 cents.

HI
Here is one of my favorite pics http://www.freewebs.com/canterburyrchelis/midair2.jpg and what does it show you, there is a lot of kinetic energy involved in helis!^And another think one can learn, only fly together if you know what you are doing! :D

I happen to agree that safety can be improved if we examine the causes of accidents and use that to improve our behavior/flying skills/equipment setup (or whatever). That being said, MAAC has asked us to be careful of posting accidents. Our insurance people are nervous these days...

One of the dangers I see is that accident postings in general tend to be more about the spectacular photos rather than about learning from the accident so that we don't repeat it. A serious examination of the root causes of the accident by the pilot and observers would be more in keeping with the "we post so that we improve safety" message.

I would like to know what % of accidents are paid or covered by MAAC insurance??? I have NEVER heard about anyone around getting involved in such a bad situation that he has to use the insurance.... any experiences in quebec???? I am curious ;)

I have crashed so many times and I have never used my insurance....

That is another point that I don't like. We keep earing stories about insurance cost but we never ear about the accidents that may have happened and that involved insurance coverage. It's looks like a taboo subject. How come there is never anything about it in the magazine ? It would be more usefull than knowing who was at a fun fly in BC...

By the way, we ear that the insurance is expensive. Have you check how much the magazin cost to MAAC lately. Last time I checked it was a lot of money for what it is.

The Mag is sure overpriced for what it is and the content, well a bit dry. Why I say that, well got comparison. The German version is about a 120 page high gloss version with latest news and techinfo. When I used to get it( yes they actually send the mag to Canada , no extra cost), I actually never needed another mag because all was in there! From latest reviews, techinfo, info etc etc. The membership was about same price and no taboos about crashes , sometimes there were actual crash reports. Regards Pete

You have to realize we are only about 12000 members. I am sure the European one has a hell of a lot more. AMA has I think 125000 members.
Re insurance, the accident that happened in London Ontario could cost close to a million by the time it is finished. lawyers and lawyers. Then the one last year where a model hit a real plane, and caused over 70 thousand dollars in damage.
What we have to do is be more aware of the dangers that could happen in our sport if not being carefull. So check your equipment and plane when you get home.
I think right now MAAC is lucky to have insurance. MAAC almost lost their insurance a couple of years ago. So they are working hard at it.
The AGM was this past weekend, I am sure their will be lot's of new rules concerning our hobby, sport.
So as the busy season is near, let's be carefull and let's have a fun summer.
