Hi all,
First time poster so I hope I'm doing things right... I searched first but found no answer.
Basically I'm looking for a model kit to give to a family friend who actually worked on the building of Short Sunderlands. I know I can buy them online but truth be told, I'd like to know of a good hobby store that has a really good selection of model kits. Any suggestions for the Montreal/West Island areas?
Thanks everybody!

Hi Mike welcome to the forum,
I remember building a sunderland when I was younger( ok well a lot younger) I used to build plastic airplane models. That the 2(or 4) engines huge float plane?
You could try any of these either Hobbieville or Ted`s or Udisco.
Good luck
Kevin

Hi Kevin, thanks for the info and the warm welcome!
I already tried Ted's, very friendly and helpful, but didn't carry it. Udisco looks like they even have my kitchen sink, and according to their website they do have it in stock so I think I'll take a look today or tomorrow. I also sent an email for info to Hobbieville, I'll go take a peek there too as they all look like good places, thanks...
As far as the Sunderland goes, I believe it's nickname (one of many I'm sure) was "The Flying Boat". Once I give it to my friend (it's a surprise) I'm sure I'll get a lot more info!

I did end up getting it at Udisco - great price and talk about selection. I will be going back when I have some time to look around. I just dashed in for the Sunderland but will be back for more.
I'll post some stories about it as I get some from someone who actually built/serviced these planes,
Thanks!

I dont know where these Sunderland flying Boats were built but I knew a pilot
who flew them in the fifties and I used to visit an air force base on the corner
of Southhampton Water (on the port side going up) just south of Fawley and
I think it was called "The Spit"- not the air force base but the area- as there was a lighthouse boat off the point suitably marked with the same to help large liners to turn without grounding (such as the QE2) the large hangars and launching hard suggested that it was a wartime base for servicing etc.
The last time I saw one was at the Aircraft museum at Duxford Cambridgeshire UK. Any help?
