My company is sending me to Montreal for 2 weeks leaving some time available on September 20 -21.

I am coming in From Anchorage Alaska and I think it would be a ton of fun to see and visit your club while I was in town. I will not be able to bring anything with me to fly, but I have always enjoyed the company of other modelers.

So what do ya say ??

Brian,

Anyone with a last name of "Ireland" is more than welcome.
Of course you will have to bring the Harp Beer!(lol)

Well hey if there is beer involved then by all means count me in !!!!

After some browsing your club is HUGE with an great flying field.

Ours is a somewhat small, but very family oriented club. We hold club picnics once a month and we do not have any organized competitions. Just show up with a flying machine and fly for the fun of it. So far it has been a winning combination as we all have a blast.

My main style or interest is in flying profiles. I love the fact that they are cheap and they fly really well. I have also begun flying helicopters and have a Kyosho Caliber 5 and a Raptor 50 Titan.

You have some interesting tips on youtube Brian. I like that one in particular:

You would be very welcome to visit when you come. Just let us know when you wish to come because there is a gate at the entrance that must be opened for you by a member. If you come without notice, you could always park your car outside the gate and walk down the driveway- about 1500 feet.

Brian, if in the meantime you can send us a month worth of sunny days you will receive a lifetime membership to WIMAC.

Those mountains in the background are just fantastic...

I wish I could spread some sunshine around. It has been a dark and cold summer for us as well. Does not really affect my flying that much but the company I work for does aerial photagraphy and so far we have been grounded for 6 weeks. If the weather does break and we get soem sunshine it is going to be REALLY busy till the snow hits.

On a side note though the Salmon have been superb this year ;-)

What would be a good day to come out and visit?? I can make it either the 20th or the 21st of September.

I am going over there for the Pratt & Whitney turbine school, and I am really looking forward to that.

On a side note If I were able to scrape an airframe together what would it take for me to be able to fly there. I carry AMA insurance which I would imagine is similar to MAAC. Keep in mind I am rather poor :D

AMA is accepted here in Canada, same as MAAC is accepted in the US

... and also accepted in WIMAc.
Best bet is to post the day before you want to come... we usually go there after 10AM but if you bring some salmon we can make an exemption....

Try to bring your noise makers! You are absolutely welcome to fly with us...

I have an idea. I could bring an engine and some radio gear with me. Anyone got a spare airframe laying around ?? :D

Prevents the prop from hitting the ground.

I am of the opinion an airplane should not tough the ground :D However our safety officer thinks otherwise abobut grabbing plane out of the air so I do have those springy wheel things. They just add weight !!!

So yeah I am looking forward to this trip.

Now this might seem like an odd question, but since I have not been to Canada before, what is there really to expect. From the few phone calls I have made for hotel reservations and such it would seem that French is the common language.

Also with the other spare time what are the good tourist spots to go to without looking like a tourist.

The only place for visiting we can recommend is WIMAC.:D

Well, yes, Montreal is quite French speaking but you will have no problems around the places you are bound to visit: hotels, restaurants, touristy places will all speak English or not get your money.... get it?:)

You will be bleary eyed in the morning just by going around, hope you have a centric hotel.
Old Port, the Mountain (need a car or a tour bus), Crescent St. (where the beer flows freely), a few Irish style Pubs around there (where the beef stew has been cooking since last year), St-Laurent and St-Denis streets (plenty of Saints here...), hell... you will just run out of time....

If I think of a few more I'll post...

Sorry, the ballet season is finished....

I will have a car to get around so that should make life a LOT easier.

I hope that you have been having better weather than we are here. Our last Fun-Fly of the season is tomorrow and so far the weather is not looking like it is going to be any good for it. It sucks to have an indoor flying summer. We get plenty of that in the winter.

I am thinking about ways to get a flying machine up there but so far all I can think of is a foamy. I am also not sure about the ever changin rules about traveling with batteries. anyone know.

Well we had our last scheduled Fun-Fly for the year last weekend. weather was OK but with the way this summer has been going I'll take it. Got three more flights on my beloved Raptor titan and so far i am loving this machine.

Has it been a questionable summer over in your neck of the woods ?? The reason I ask is that I's still deciding if I want to work on bringing an airplane over or just hang out in the rain.

It has been a lousy season.... it rains during the day and if the weather forecast announces rain and you stay home.... then it doesn't....
Wait to get closer to Sept. to make plans...

All right three weeks-ish to go. If all goes well I will try to bring along some nice weather. Does not look likely that I am going to have anything to fly so I will just come out and hang around for a bit. It will be nice to get out of the classroom for a little while.

Made it in last night and decided to check out the nightlife. WOW having not been in a city for a while it was a little overwhelming. Quite a diverse group of people. I had a good time but called it a night when the bars closed.
