I have been aproched by some guy here in Sherbrooke who found my name through a web helicopter directory. This guy had, of course, already bought his helicopter. I helped him set up his machine and now he does'nt think that he will be joining a club so he doesn't think MAAC is good for him because he want's to fly anywhere he can !!
I just can't seem to find good arguments to make him change his mind. Any advice ?

I don't know what you can do with people who doesn't listen.
He will crash. That's for sure.
He will injure somebody if flying in front of people.
He will cause property damage.
He will be sued.

Also a lesson learn, before you give advice, he has to joing a club and MAAC. Otherwise, no show. YOu are risking yourself by showing him without him being a MAAC member.
That would be awful if something would of happened while you were trying to help him.
So next time, " sure I would be happy to show you, but first you have to join a club and have MAAC insurance, otherwise, I can't take the risk in helping you." This is more for someone who has gone ahead and bought the equipment. Someone who is thinking of buying, can be given the advice on what to buy, but once he bought it, then back to joining MAAC and a Club.

I'm thinking of buying a Helicopter too. Maybe an electric one.
What do I need to know before I buy and where do I join the club and the MAAC.
Also your opions on the Align T-Rex. would it be a good buy.
or do you guys only deal with Gas Helis.
Please let me know.
Thanks.

Angelo:
1) Visit the club either now in our indoor flying (see home page) or during the season at the field.
2) Talk with the people, specially the ones flying helis.
3) Based on advise, see if there are bargains somewhere. Do not buy yet. Talk again with the guys.
4) Join MAAC and then WIMAC. Flying instruction is provided by experienced instructors on a volunteer basis.
5) Only then visit the Hobby shop....
Happy flying!

Sound good to me. When do you guys meet.
I'll try passing by next week.
I'm not new to R/C. But new to Flying.
Usually I race Nitro and Electric Cars, but recently took a sudden
urge to fly, its been something I've wanted to do for sometime.
Thanks.

Thanks guys for the advice.. but still don't think this is going to convince him ... I might as well tell him where he can find me and what he need's to do to enter the site with his machine ....
I am also joining the club direction (a?romod?liste de l'estrie) so I might as well set a good exemple !!
thanks also for the tread drift ....

We had a few cases in WIMAC where people will come, mention that they will join, have somebody work a full day on his aircraft, put it in flying condition and then leave and never come back. Usually they will try to fly it on its own property.
The best policy is not to help anyone that is not a member of a Club. That implies, then, that he has joined MAAC.
One thing is giving advice to prospective members another is working like a slave to see him abuse of your good will.

The law?
CAR 602.01
Reckless or Negligent Operation of Aircraft
No person shall operate an aircraft in such a reckless or negligent manner as to endanger or be likely to endanger the life or property of any person.
Transport Canada regulates all civil aircraft flight in Canada and has exempted hang gliders and model aircraft from the air regulations on the basis that their associations provide the necessary guidance and oversight (including insurance).
Unless he is very careful and demonstrates the appropriate level of care he may risk prosecution as well as civil law suits if he hurts anybody.
If it is a 100g electric or he goes to a very remote area, nobody cares much. However we should not forget that we can fly without government regulation because of MAAC.
Quiz. What is the Canadian definition of a model aircraft?

I do not indend to double cross you.
If I buy a Helicopter, It is for sure that I will join. 100%
And be as helpful to the club as I can be.
I have a strong belief in Club Community and always have up held
a good reputation as a Member in the other Clubs I have been
part of. I am serious R/C 'er. I take my hobby seriously and I aways say,
"" If you do it alone its not worth doing."".
So my intentions are TRUE. There after it will have to be upto you
members to accept me as a member and help keep my interests alive,
as is my goal to promote our hobby to other with the same intentions.
P.S.
What the Combat flying that you guys do. Some kind of competion.
Very interested in observing this as it may effect me in what I buy.
Please do give details...

Angelo, the posting was not addressed at you, it was a reflection on the contents of the first post.

Greg, part of it - no "persons or other living creatures" allowed. A very small flying machine is not be a "model aircraft" if it is not flown recreationally.
