Racer R 30 X Long Wing
I always wanted a racer and I decided to build a long wing version of a 30's style of racer - This one was tested by Paul Grenier - Thanks to Brian Kizner also for providing the impetus to design and put this one together and the base materials for the horiz stab and rear fuselage. Also thanks to Luc Filiatrault for his foam cutter bow. Propelled by an O.S. 0.50 SX and a 3 bl. 11X7 prop this plane really moves and doesn't want to slow down + good stall manners.
68" wingspan = long wing in proportion to fuselage. Note LG mounted just aft of engine cowling and in front of wing.
Profile view shows minus 3 deg wingtip washout to allow high AOA at lower speed on final...this thing doesn't want to slow down.
View from 3/4 rear , flaps lowered 1/4 of travel
Pilot is a tight fit...such a cramped "office".
New rudder, elevators, cowling
Obeechee-covered wing core, halves joined next to completed fuselage, painted cowling and fiberglasss LG with wheel fairings.
Cowling mounting ring with hot air evacuation arrangement part of fuselage aft of mounting ring.
Covered fuselage without rudder or elevators - Unpainted cowling in place showing gap between fuselage and cowling to allow hot air exhaust.
